Regulatory Compliance

For many companies, regardless of size, environmental regulatory compliance can be a headache. Beyond the usual need to comply with regulations when doing business, environmental regulations may rely on a degree of scientific understanding that may not be realistic for those outside of scientific disciplines. A constantly shifting and evolving landscape of regulations requires companies to dedicate extensive time and money to staying current, understanding their obligations, and bringing their projects into compliance. Business leaders are well aware that the cost of noncompliance can be significant, with the constant threat of legal and financial repercussions, including fines and penalties. Achieving full compliance can be a complex and uncertain process.

Experts like those at L&M, who are former regulators as well as environmental scientists, provide invaluable support in maintaining compliance. Our team offers guidance on interpreting regulations and implementing best practices to help companies stay compliant, reduce their environmental impact, and minimize liability risks. We can also assist companies in identifying potential environmental risks, develop risk management plans, and improve their environmental performance by providing training and resources to reference for those on the ground working on the project, as well as those directing it from their offices.

Our services focus on two main areas: compliance with air, waste, and water regulations, and understanding and mitigating the impact of projects on protected species and habitats.

Wildlife-Related Services

Our staff includes a NOAA-Certified Protected Species Observer, who will help you comply with federal regulations involving species protected by federal law if they are observed in your work area for marine construction and dredge projects.

L&M personnel conduct surveys to determine whether your project may impact the habitat of endangered or sensitive species, particularly those species covered by the Endangered Species Act, helping you to avoid potentially very costly consequences of causing any such damage. We have decades of experience performing surveys for marine mammals, sea turtles, birds and corals.

It is critical for you to be aware of what species may be impacted by your work in or near their habitat, including marine species. Our assessments leverage our specialized experience, including oyster and coral assessments with our certified divers, to ensure that you are not taken by surprise in these situations.
